The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at its 90th session (16 to 25 May 2012) amended several traffic separation schemes (TSS) providing implementation dates from 1 June 2013. Details of the changes can be found in the IMO circular COLREG.2/CIRC.64 and this can be downloaded here. All owners, operators and managers should note these changes and highlight them to the masters of their ships. The changes are as follows:

As of 0000 hours UTC on 1 June 2013 the following TSS will be amended:

“Off Rodsher Island” (amended scheme)
“Off Ushant” (amended scheme)
“In the Santa Barbara Channel” (amended scheme)
“Off San Francisco” (amended scheme)
“In the Approaches to Los Angeles – Long Beach” (amended scheme).

In addition, amendments to the mandatory ship reporting system “In the Storebælt (Great Belt) traffic area (BELTREP)” will enter into force at 0000 hours UTC on 1 July 2013.

As a forewarning note the following TSSs are being amended and will enter into force at 0000 hours UTC on 1 August 2013.

“Off Texel” (amended scheme);
“In the Approaches to Hook of Holland and at North Hinder” (amended scheme);
