INTERTANKO continues to be extremely concerned regarding payment demands by port officials coupled with threats to detain vessels. These so-called ‘facilitation payments’ have been reported by Members as occurring in many areas, with West Africa and within the Indian Sub-continent as being areas of particular concern.

In order to respond to these facilitation payment demands within the countries, INTERTANKO needs more information from those reporting the abuse.

INTERTANKO is fortunate that several owners have provided detailed reports on the incidents but they need more. Therefore, INTERTANKO would welcome further reports on such incidents and will pursue them.
